Project Background

What is Lerma Agency?

Lerma is a fully independent agency with multicultural roots. They service a variety of clients from faith-based organizations like The Chosen and The Salvation Army to more casual brands like Avocados From Mexico and the CBD brand, Rebel Chef.

Lerma Needs Multi-Talented Teams to Service Their Clients

With such a diverse set of clients, it's only natural that Lerma needs to have staff with a diverse set of skills and backgrounds to accomplish their projects.

Problems

The Employees at Lerma Do Not Have a Streamlined Way of Finding Team Members with Relevant Skills to Match Project Needs

Solution

I Created a Directory that Allows Users to Search Employees with Specific Attributes

Who Are The Users? What Are Their Goals?

All Lerma Employees Are Users - They All Need To Find Great Teammates to Produce Great Work

Any agency employee, from the CEO to the Office Manager, is considered a user who needs to find team members with various skills to handle Lerma's diverse clients. These skills could include development, marketing, paid search, project management, design, and more.

Lerma personas

Previously, Finding Relevant Team Members Was a Time-Consuming Process

Without a central database, users wasted time manually searching for relevant team members, often resorting to LinkedIn or asking around the office. There was no streamlined way to identify the right people with specific skills or industry knowledge.

The North Star

With these goals and pain points in mind, we sought to ask ourselves:

How might we help users save time when finding team members with relevant skills and experiences that matches their project needs?

Optimizing The Search Process With a Directory

We Created an Employee Directory with Attribute Search Filters

This employee directory allows users to search for teammates with different attributes whether it be languages they know, industries they have experience in, or specific technical skills.

How Does a Directory Solve the User Problems and Assist With the User Goals?

By providing a directory, we created a streamlined directory for users to quickly find team members with the skills needed for their projects, eliminating the need for time-consuming messaging and asking around the office. Especially as the company grows, the value and time saved with this product infinitely increases.

Results

🎉 A Streamlined Employee Search Process

The users now have a consistently reliable way of finding team members with specific skills and experiences for client projects.

🎉 Over 150 Employee Profiles

Especially with a fast growing company like Lerma, more employees means more potential to find the perfect team members.

🎉 Over 300 Searchable Employee Attributes

As the company continues to grow, the number of searchable skills will only increase. This allows team members to continuously narrow down the most relevant employees.

Conclusions

Limitations

Because this product lives in the existing intranet, there were limitations in the UI elements that I was able to use in order to match the design of the intranet. These UI elements included fonts, font sizes, margins, and colors.

Since we had a strict timeline and this was an internal, non-paying project, we couldn't QA all the non-critical aspects of the live product. One of these was ensuring the UI perfectly matched the design.

Lastly, because of that strict timeline, features like the "Results must have all attributes," among others are backlogged to be implemented at a later time as we settled for minimum features for an on-time delivery.

To The Future

As the company continues to grow, there will inevitably be opportunities to improve the experience of this product. These opportunities may include backlogged features, improvements to the profile attribute display, and even UI changes as we receive opportunities to update the UI of the whole intranet.
